THE SHAWNEE TRIBE

We are proud for you to explore our site and learn more about the services we have to offer, the ways we are trying to preserve our history and to better the future of our people. We hope that you find this site helpful and appreciate your feedback and suggestions so that we may continually improve. The Shawnee Tribe became a separately federally recognized Tribe when Congress enacted the legislation known as Public Law 106-568, or the Shawnee Tribe Status Act of 2000, and President Clinton signed it as one of his final acts in office on December 28, 2000.

What I have learned I am willing to learn (teach) the younger generation if they desire to. Because as we all know, if they are not interested, we can't compel them to do things. As I know, in my younger days, coming up, i was interested in it for some reason, somehow. I kept on trying, trying more all the time, even though I have been a man that's not been encouraged. I've been discouraged all along, but that didn't discourage me anyway. I went along and kept trying. Finally I got to where I am now.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none.

When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.
Tecumseh
Shawnee Chief

The tribe has an ancient and rich culture and traditions.
